Overcome Self-Doubt With These 9 Tips

monster in mind

A person who doubts himself is like a man who would enlist in the ranks of his enemies and bear arms against himself. He makes his failure certain by himself being the first person to be convinced of it.- Alexandre Dumas

Your mind has been taken over by a monster.

Or maybe you’ve just felt immense self-doubt for the past 20 years.

Doesn’t matter.

What matters is that you are looking for ways to tackle it down:

1. You’re not alone

You are not alone with it.

In fact, there is no one who doesn’t feel lack of confidence once in a while.

It’s completely normal and you should treat is as such.

Know it to be just a passing wave in your consciousness.

2. Change your perspective

When you are doubting yourself your perception is something like this: “everyone else can do this, but I can’t”

You are comparing yourself to others who are in completely different points at their lives.

The fact is that you don’t know what those people have gone through. Most likely they’ve gone through exactly the same stuff as you have.

The problem is that we can never see what they’ve done to get there.

You aren’t special, but neither is anyone else.

3. Know the real culprit

Ego thinks that it’s the center of the world (it isn’t)

Ego thinks that people care about what you do (no one gives a shit)

Ego thinks that mistakes are bad (they aren’t)

Ego isn’t real.

It’s a concept you’ve made up in your mind.

All the fears and everything negative is made up by your mind.

The only thing that is real is what you can do now.

4. Face the source and embrace it

Where is your doubt coming from?

Instead of thinking about it, face it straight and embrace it.

For example, if you are worried that people will hate your art, get someone to criticize it.

Your thoughts will always hurt you more than reality.

If you can’t, just embrace the fact that someone will always think you suck at what you do.

Become ok with it, because it’s really not a big deal.

5. Ditch those who bring you down

One major component of doubt can be people who you are around with.

Unless that person is an expert on the subject, you shouldn’t give another thought to their opinions whether you’ll succeed or not.

This is because most people are living in their own limited bubbles, where they simply don’t believe that doing something else is possible.

The worst part is that they often try to unconsciously bring you down with them.

6. Just do

Self-doubt is there because you are thinking more than you are doing.

The more you think about it, the more it paralyzes you.

The more you act on it, the freer you become of your thoughts.

7. Write about it

You don’t have to publish it anywhere – you can even delete it, but I promise you that writing down your thoughts about it will improve your state.

It’s hard to understand why it works before you try it, but it clarifies your thoughts better than anything else.

Sometimes it’s as if the feeling would transfer from your body to the screen, freeing you from whatever was bothering.

8. Embrace the never-ending battle

Everyone will doubt themselves at some point, regardless of their level of skill.

The difference between those who keep going forward and those who stay still is how they deal with that feeling.

Lack of confidence will keep coming back and you’ll have to be ready to tackle it every single time.

9. “What’s the worst that can happen?”

Let me tell you: the worst that can happen is that you’ll stay still for the rest of your life, never getting anything done.

What are some scratches and bruises compared to that?
